From the Ogden Half Marathon to the IKEA Marathon!

Wow. If only today had been documented. Somewhere in my silly head I set the goal to run a half-marathon race each month through the summer. The SL Half went so well, I was not concerned in the least about the Ogden Half, even though it fell just a day and a half after we got back from Hawaii, oh how funny I am. After my original partner bailed on me (punk) I managed to talk Steph into running it with me. She thought it would be good practice for her half-ironman in a few weeks. She did great...I survived. My excuses are endless and some would say justifiable; altitude, lack of running in Hawaii, old shoes, lack of sleep, etc. But it all came down to the fact I wasn't prepared. And as if I hadn't figured that out by the tired body and slower time (2:16:30) I think puking on the side of the road as we drove home might have solidified that feeling. Oh wait and the encore vomit that continued throughout the morning...that definitely said something.
However! I could not be stopped!! IKEA lay in wait. Phil scored some sneak preview passes to IKEA, so we made a girls day of it! We were able to go in 4 days before anyone else, and we didn't even have to camp out like some crazies did. After attempting to gain some degree of composure I hustled out to meet the girls at IKEA. The girls dragged me all over the store, I'm pretty sure we walked the equivalent of 13.1 miles, although they said they felt sorry for me, I don't actually believe them. The appeal of goodies for the home was too enticing. The store is awesome and we purchased lots of great things. I think I will wait to return for a few months, as I'm pretty sure the crowds will be too much to handle.

First of all, a huge thanks to Ashley and Byron for getting married in Hawaii and letting the family tag along with them. Thanks!!! Seth and I weren't sure we could fit a Hawaii trip into our busy agenda, but the happy couple seemed to be in need of a photographer and a hair stylist, so we figured we could make room for them, they are family after all!! Or, we were begging them to take us along, something like that!

We flew out the day after Seth graduated (another woohoo for that!) . From the moment we landed I knew I wouldn't want to come home! It is beautiful! The first week we stayed with the Halsey's in Laie, we were right on the water, love that!! The second week, after his family flew out, we moved up the coast a little ways to a house near Waimea Bay, we were up on the cliffs that overlook the ocean, amazing!! We were very lucky to have amazing homes both weeks. We were able to do so many fun things. We went to the Polynesian Cultural Center, Dole Pineapple Plantaion, Diamond Head, Pali Lookout, Shark's Cove, Turtle Bay, Pearl Harbor, Punchbowl Crater, and Haleiwa. We went on a bunch of hikes, including a hike to a waterfall behind the PCC, Waimea Falls and Laie Falls. Waimea wasn't exactly a "hike" more of a gentle walk on a paved trail. Laie on the otherhand was a full on hike, with trail guides Dan and Anders, Seth and I were running to keep up! The second week we were there Seth and I spent at least a few hours each day at Waimea Bay, supposedly that is where they have some of the biggest waves in the world during the surf season. Clearly it was the off-season, as the bay was as calm as a swimming pool!! We loved it there though. Seth was able to do a little surfing, although the waves were not 20 or 30 feet high, he was content with the size (2-3 feet! just kidding, they were a little bigger than that). Anyway, a good time was definitely had by all. A thousand thanks to everyone that made that trip amazing! We loved it and can't wait to go back!

Seth is now an official graduate of the University of Utah!! Rock on. I couldn't be more proud of him. He has worked so hard and I think he's amazing. Now that he's a big kid he will continue to work at the Silver Pelican, where he will be taking on more responsibilities as a photographer and he will spend his third summer coaching at the Salt Lake Country Club, he will be busy, but I think he likes it that way! ...and yes, those are film canisters around his neck :)
